Cracking Concrete


Concrete cracks due to numerous reasons and over time can become brittle resulting in additional hairline cracking and concrete deterioration. Even a small crack, when continuously exposed to water, liquids and moisture, can eventually create massive problems both structurally and aesthetically. 

Preventing hairline cracking and improving the abrasion resistance of concrete surfaces dramatically reduces larger cracks from occurring.

InnerCreteTM Membrane Technology, employed in most Protocol Products;

Because all Protocol Products – with InnerCreteTM Membrane Technology, create an integral membrane within the concrete, the treated concrete has an increased resistance to hairline cracking.  This makes all products an effective solution to minimizing future cracking.  When choosing a product for use in a specific application, refer to the individual product pages. 

VersaGuard 42 For use on concrete which will / may have paint or a coating  applied.  This product can be used in high-traffic areas subject to the pooling of liquids on the surface, however normal precautions must still be followed.
DualGuard 45 For use on concrete which will retain a natural surface, yet has the addition of a super surface repellant for visual water “beading.”  For use in applications that would normally use a surface sealer but with increased durability and longevity of the concrete mass.  Caution should be used when treating high traffic areas as pooling of the liquids on the surface could be a slipping hazard.
All Protocol Products are for use:

  • Indoor / Outdoor
  • Above and Below Ground
  • Vertical, Horizontal and Ceiling Surfaces

Protocol Products are not designed to prevent cracking due to shifting and settling or to fill large voids and cracks already present in concrete, rather to prevent some of the factors that cause cracking.  Protocol Products can be used in conjunction with other products designed to fill cracks in concrete.

Once voids and cracks have been patched (and cured if necessary) according to the manufacturer’s instructions, use the Protocol Product according to the instructions on the label.  Protocol Products will not affect the efficacy of the patch material; rather help reduce hairline cracking and other factors that cause more serious damage.
